Most browser camera games are random video chat with a scoreboard bolted on. omogle is built the other way around: a short, bounded round with a camera check, a local scan, a result, and a rating that moves. The camera is the input, not an endless feed.
This page explains the game loop, the rating math, and the parts that are still in beta. The playable panel is at the bottom. If you only want the rules, the FAQ answers the common questions without starting a camera.
The game loop in five stages
Every session follows the same order. The play panel shows the stages as a checklist so you know what is happening and what comes next.
- 1
Camera check
The browser asks for front-camera permission. omogle requests video only. The preview stays on your device during the check.
- 2
Local PSL scan
A 1–10 entertainment-only signal runs in the browser and seeds the round. The current beta does not upload the frames.
- 3
Queue
Join the queue and see an opponent name. Today the queue opens a practice room while live rooms are prepared.
- 4
Battle result
Record a win, draw, or loss. The result screen shows the rating before and after, the delta, and the tier.
- 5
Leaderboard
Open the public leaderboard to see rating, tier, wins, losses, draws, and streak for the top players.
How the ELO rating works
omogle uses ELO, the same family of rating math used in chess. Before a battle, the game estimates your expected score from the rating gap. After the battle, your rating moves by 32 times the difference between what you scored and what you were expected to score. Any non-zero change is kept between 2 and 32 points.
A new player starts at 1200, which is the bottom of the Gold tier. Beating an equal opponent is worth about 16 points. Beating a higher-rated opponent is worth more; losing to a lower-rated opponent costs more.
| Situation from 1200 | Expected score | Rating change |
|---|---|---|
| Beat a 1200 opponent | 0.50 | +16 |
| Lose to a 1200 opponent | 0.50 | -16 |
| Draw with a 1200 opponent | 0.50 | 0 |
| Beat a 1400 opponent | 0.24 | +24 |
| Lose to a 1000 opponent | 0.76 | -24 |
Tiers and the leaderboard
The rating band decides the tier. Tiers are game ranks, not judgments about a person.
| Tier | Rating |
|---|---|
| Bronze | Below 1000 |
| Silver | 1000–1199 |
| Gold | 1200–1399 |
| Platinum | 1400–1599 |
| Elite | 1600 and above |
Why a browser-first camera game
A browser game removes the install step. You open a page, grant camera permission, and play. The trade-off is that the browser has to do more work, and the page has to be honest about what it can and cannot do.
omogle keeps the camera check and the scan local in the current beta. Live video rooms need real-time signaling, production TURN servers, and moderation staffing before they can scale. The queue returns a practice room today and says so on screen instead of pretending that a live opponent is connected.
Free play, paid plans, and safety
You can play without an account. Free players get a daily battle limit and may see ads. Paid plans remove ads and the cap while the plan is active; the pricing page has the current names and prices.
Every round has a report path. Reports store the reason, match id, and notes separately from scoring, so a report never changes the rating math. If a match breaks the safety rules, report it and leave. Do not share personal information with an opponent.
- Play without an account; sign in to save your rating to a profile.
- The camera check and scan run locally in the current beta.
- Reports go to moderation and do not change ratings.
- Paid plans remove ads and the daily battle cap while active.
- Live rooms are a separate feature that requires more infrastructure.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to play the camera battle game?
No. The basic play flow opens without an account. A free account saves the rating to your profile and adds billing and account history.
Does omogle upload my camera?
The camera check and local scan run in the browser in the current beta and do not upload frames. Battle results and account data may be stored. A future live room would need explicit video transmission and its own notice.
How many battles can I play for free?
Free players can finish a limited number of battles per UTC day. The play panel shows the current limit and links to the pricing page when it is reached.
Is the rating a face score?
No. The ELO rating measures battle results against opponents. The local PSL scan is a separate game seed and is entertainment-only. Neither is a scientific judgment of appearance.
When will live video rooms be available?
Live rooms need real-time signaling, production TURN, and moderation staffing. The queue returns a practice room today. Check the play page for the current status before you invite a friend.
